How is presence progress?

Presence–your physical presence–makes way for your voice, your opinion.
It’s representation and representing–those simple and complex things.
Your presence  in the movie theater, in the park, and at the crosswalk is an expression of your civil rights.
In the past, your public presence may have been barred, uninvited, or an impossibility.
In the past,  oppressive societies may have made your public presence a danger or challenge to yourself.
Perhaps your presence suffers this reality now.

Being in public space is life-affirming.
Getting out and about helps you care for yourself and those you love.  It helps you make a living.  It allows you to interact with people casually and safely.
In our society’s efforts to include, protect, and support more people, presence is no small matter.

  1. You have said it so clearly and so well! I’ll try to put part of the idea in my own words: We are a social species; we need each other; we all benefit by including everyone in our society; the more effort we put into enabling everyone’s presence and participation, the richer human experience becomes for all. Furthermore, everyone deserves the right to presence and participation to the best degree that we can manage.

NYT article confirms: PRESENCE IS PROGRESS!

“I wasn’t any longer attached to my performance and trying to control things. I could see that the really good things in life will happen if you just show up and share your natural enthusiasms with people. You have a feeling of attunement with other people.”
